The Sun, The Sun,

What glory today.....

...cold nose peeping over my scarf..

..earth sodden with days of rain..

.the layers of dead and decaying leaves make for a slithering walk among the trees...
..we disturb two red deer...leaping silently through the brambles and over the fence..

....The Lodger strains at the lead....the hinds scent evokes a song and dance in him...

..a buzzard hidden in the tree suddenly takes off above us...wide wings gliding effortlessly across the waterlogged fields...

..late winter sun weakly shines through....bringing a lifting of my spirits..

....tiny wings flapping in my heart....

..could spring be here?......

Snowdrops

Do you know what I was, How I lived? You know
what despair is; then
winter should have meaning for you,

I did not expect to survive,
earth suppressing me. I didn't expect
to waken again, to feel
in damp earth my body
able to respond again, remembering
after so long how to open again
in the cold light
of earliest spring-

afraid, yes, but among you again
crying yes risk joy

in the raw wind of the new world.

Louise Gluck.

Lovely post Kay. I think I've sniffed Spring the last couple of days too, though the weathermen are saying a very cold snap is once again coming our way....

It is freezing here in Finland, -23Celsius and the weather forecaster said there will be a snowstorm tomorrow. It's already quite windy, wind breeze nearly 20 meters/second. hrrrrrr.. I truly wiss the spring would come soon.

the gateway - so beautiful - i can't explain why i love gateways but they have so many echoes in my experience and then too the fields beyond are rich with promise so perhaps it's the metaphor as much as the image that appeals. the gluck poem is so gorgeous. feel that fluttering kay!!! steven

totally agree with the gateway metaphor steven.....however feel i may have been slightly optomistic on the spring front as bittery cold nights and snow forcast this week....stay warm..stay well my friend..xx
