....With the volcanic ash cloud over the UK and all planes grounded our skies usually criss crossed with vapour trails are clear and blue and silent....

kay i've been following the icelandic plume story since it started. isn't it astonishing that so much fiscal and personal difficulty can be incurred by a relatively small volcano! i really hope your trip isn't affected. steven

Gosh, a layer of ash on your car, Kay? I have to say, I've caught the odd whiff of something vaguely volcanic, but apart from that, it's all seemed clear over here. Fingers crossed all will be well for your trip next week (mind you, the ferry sounds like a fine idea). xx
