here i stand.....

here i stand
alone
the past flies like demons around the dark corners of my mind
the haunting wrongs cast in my name
creep from under floorboards hammered shut long ago
i stare
unseeing into the blackest pages
of copperplate script
and understand nothing

here i stand
waiting
for the clink of keys
the smell of incense and the chanting of gold trimmed charlatans
while the moon that has been my last companion
waxes
 and the dawn rises
i stare at the door
resigned.

my latest effort in MAGPIE TALES no.86 with thanks to Tess for the prompt.

while the moon that has been my last companion
    waxes
    and the dawn rises
    i stare at the door
    resigned.

  7. I have to agree with you, Kay. There was something about this image that was heavy, and brooding, and dark. Well expressed.
