In the striped tent

In  a last ditch effort
to draw the disenchanted
to the Big Top
the last pot of glue lay empty
behind the vultures cage
the storm of feathers floating
gently down
on red sand
the crowd watched the grand finale
speechless.

with thanks to Tess at magpie tales for the prompt!

  6. Beautiful sentiments in the words!! I hate the things that animals are made to do under the big tent, not their life, sad!!

  13. This reminded me so much of the last tawdry circus I saw as a child. Even I could see that elephants weren't at all happy, and that made me sad. Vultures, indeed!

If you're curious. my Magpie 85 is Topsy.

  16. It was very hard not to write sad words to accompany this image. Your poem made me think of "Water for Elephants" and the terrible life that circus animals have...

  19. You said just enough in your poem to paint a great mental picture (and your sketch adds to it), then stopped.
