Lady Deadlocks Muse
my dears
come,
i can feel your presence
as i sit, quietly stitching
the late winters sun
dancing shadows on faded wallpaper
curling
waiting for a bell ringing in the distance
lace and silk rustle as i stitch
at any moment my lady may call
a little darning perhaps
or a sleeve to be re-hemmed
i stretch to light the taper
i need flickering candlelight to sew by
a supper of cake with a tiny glass of madeira
awaits
do you hear her call?
a quiet voice echoing along paneled corridors
I fear not my dears,
so begging your pardon
I will carry on my pretty work,
'til the flame burns low
and it is time for me to retire.
