Lady Deadlocks Muse

my dears
come,
i can feel your presence
as i sit, quietly stitching
the late winters sun
dancing shadows on faded wallpaper
curling
waiting for a bell ringing in the distance
lace and silk rustle as i stitch
at any moment my lady may call
a little darning perhaps
or a sleeve to be re-hemmed
i stretch  to light the taper
i need flickering candlelight to sew by
a supper of cake with a tiny glass of madeira
awaits
do you hear her call?
a quiet voice echoing along paneled corridors
I fear not my dears,
so begging your pardon
I will carry on my pretty work,
'til the flame burns low
and it is time for me to retire.

My Two Stars

my two stars
you stand  next to me
even when we are parted
my heart is filled
as the oceans fills
unknown crevices
we have walked, talked
laughed and cried
through the dramas of our lives
and i know that you stand strong
in case i should fall
or vary from the path
your love cradles me
wrapped around soft and downy
you are my world
my distant horizon
and my tiny new shoots of spring.

Victory

Verdun, 1917 by Felix Vallotton.

Shifting waves of gas
choke us
we fight
our boots heavy with mud
dug in
cold sodden great coats
weigh us down
but we do not despair
defiant beneath leaden grey skies
snow flurries cover
our lost comrades
we will be the victors
our bravery shines bright
as suns rays through the clouds.

The Mag 142

Charis, Lake Ediza, California, 1937 by Edward Weston

When life backs you hard
against the wall
stare it down
with defiance
make the world curious
about your story
whoever you are.

The Mag over at Tess's has the others.

I love that girls boots......nearly wrote a cobblers tale!!
