beyond the grey

not to be reproduced 1937 Magritte

raven black
iridescent feathers
back to back
wings clipped
straight
to the side
unseen eyes
focus
on the far horizon
where the lark ascends
singing to the sun
as a gentle breeze
lifts spirits
soaring into cobalt blue
singed with ozone
look why don't you
and see beyond the grey walls
of winter.

What an extraordinary image...go to The Mag to see the other poets work.

Walking today in the very cold and snow scattered landscape.... high above me the skylarks where singing fluttering higher and higher until i lost sight of them in the clouds....i love them....they fill my heart with their song and their apparent  joy...which seems boundless.

I dare you!

faun horse and bird by Picasso 1936

Balanced on the rocky outcrop
we dared each other
to dive
into unknown waters
pirouetting and twirling
for the best advantage
we pushed and pulled
dissolving into fits
and shakes of giggles
anxious mothers watching from the tower
gasped as we fell together
into the choppy sea.

coral beach

walking down through lush
clover,
red and white,
tiny butterflies rise around us
in unison
we reach the beach
salt spray fills the air
white sand of shell
and coral
crunches
and we stare at the infinite horizon
breathless with the beauty
washed pure in our own thoughts.

This is about a beautiful beach on the Isle Of Skye that I visited many years ago but the smell of the sea, clover and that gorgeous white sand remain with me.

Forget-me-not blue

forget- me- not blue
delicate silk stitched
by my open window
in early spring
gathered pleats fold
as outside  sparrows argue
over this and that
emerging blooms of hyacinths
scent  my dappled sun lit garden
as catkins wave
pollen cascades
to a promise of bees
i stare  distant horizions
watching the rain clouds
gathering dark.
