In a last ditch effort
to draw the disenchanted
to the Big Top
the last pot of glue lay empty
behind the vultures cage
the storm of feathers floating
gently down
on red sand
the crowd watched the grand finale
speechless.
with thanks to Tess at magpie tales for the prompt!
Magnificent indeed...this is beautiful Kay! :-)
ReplyDeleteFabulous take on the prompt. Love the sketch!
ReplyDeleteph to what lengths we will go...poor bird, poor elephant, and poor poor fools that will pay to see it and cheer....
ReplyDeleteEeee! I like it! Almost speechless myself, and enchanted. Sweet drawing, too.
ReplyDeleteDesperate times, desperate remedies! Great idea for your Magpie.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sentiments in the words!! I hate the things that animals are made to do under the big tent, not their life, sad!!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is very, VERY clever! I just love it.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is very VERY clever. I just love it.
ReplyDeleteHello! I loved this ... it reminded me of one of my favorite novels 'Water for Elephants'
ReplyDeleteExcellent interpretation and natty sketching! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely response to the prompt.
ReplyDeletemany thanks for all your encouraging comments..this is a real 'get away from reality' for a few moments for me and i'm glad you liked it..xx kay
ReplyDeleteThis reminded me so much of the last tawdry circus I saw as a child. Even I could see that elephants weren't at all happy, and that made me sad. Vultures, indeed!
ReplyDeleteIf you're curious. my Magpie 85 is Topsy.
I think this was a great take for the theme
ReplyDeleteI love the notion of the empty glue pots...tons of them...
ReplyDeleteIt was very hard not to write sad words to accompany this image. Your poem made me think of "Water for Elephants" and the terrible life that circus animals have...
ReplyDeleteWonderful sketch and a disturbingly memorable poem to accompany it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments, several people have mentioned the novel' water for elephants' i tried to read the book but had to stop as its cruelty upset me, however my daughter says i HAVE to watch the film, so i am working my way up to that!!...a have drawn a lot of circus style pictures lately but this is the first elephant one!!!..thank you for visiting..Kay X
ReplyDeleteYou said just enough in your poem to paint a great mental picture (and your sketch adds to it), then stopped.
